about us
deadlysisu (deadly sis-ooh), an ethical small business creating sustainable fashion spaces. deadlysisu has grown from a regular community market stall to four stores across lutruwita/TAS, these are in Sorell, Richmond Village, Midtown, and nipaluna/Hobart, alongside an emerging online presence.
deadlysisu is a fusion name combining and acknowledging both our heritage and values.
deadly is the Indigenous colloquialism for awesomeness.
sisu (loosely translated) is the Finnish concept reflecting strength, resilience, optimism, determination, and perseverance in a task that for some may seem crazy to undertake, almost hopeless.
Our business name reflects what the year 2020 was for our family and many others while also foreshadowing our intentions for 2021 and beyond.
In October 2020, we booked our first market stalls in and around nipaluna/Hobart including the Re-loved and Pre-Loved Clothing Markets and the Sorell Community Market.
Sourcing quality vintage, retro and pre-loved fashion is something as a family we have done for many years. Initially, this was out of necessity and, more recently, our passion. We quickly outgrew our spare bedroom, then a shipping container!
March 2021, we signed our lease to secure 130m2 retail space in Sorell, a humble offering of preloved clothing mainly brand name activewear and selling locally made accessories and upcycled clothing. This quickly expanded to selling awesome pieces on consignment and this has continued to grow weekly.
October 2021, we opened our second store in Richmond Village, where we focus on locally handmade and quality preloved fashion and accessories for the whole family.
February 2022, we procured the Pre-Loved Clothing Market – significantly our first ever market that we hosted stalls. These are run indoors monthly on the first Saturday from 12 noon at the historic St James Hall in North Hobart.
May 2022, our Midtown Hobart Store became brick-and-mortar store number three and now the headquarters of deadlysisu online and our click and collect location.
July 2022, Factory X (Dangerfield, Black Friday, Gorman, Jack London) approached us to come onboard as their feature store in the historic Coogan’s Building.
August 2022 deadlysisu on Collins was born where we occupy 300m2 of CBD retail space (upstairs on level 1) our focus is showcasing curated preloved clothing and collaborating with several vintage collectors.
January 2023 deadlysisu online is launched.
We are loving our journey - come check us out in person when in lutruwita/Hobart xxx
